Herbal Love Potions and Romance with Tea!

Valentine’s Day is almost here, and love must be in the air because at Tealish we’re hearing a lot of questions about tea and romance.

Our customers have asked everything from ” is there a tea that can help me get in the mood?” to, ” is there a tea that will make my crush fall deeply in love with me?”

Well, we can’t guarantee that our Love Potion Green Tea will make you instantly irresistible to the opposite sex, and we can’t say for sure that a cup of Sweetie Pie Rooibos will make you charming beyond compare. But what we can do is give you some ideas on how tea can help in the romance department, especially when it comes to setting “the mood.”

Many of our favorite tealish blends contain ingredients that are believed to enhance feelings of well-being, excitement, and even stimulation. Many cultures believe herbs, spices, and florals work not only on the physical body, but also on the spiritual, mental, and emotional bodies as well.

Scents like lavender, rose, and jasmine can be a great start to an intimate evening by encouraging feelings of calmness and comfort. Start your special night with a fragrant cup of either Jasmine Silver Tips or Rooibos Provence and melt away your stress and concerns.

Spices such as cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, and clove stimulate the senses and often promote circulation. Sounds like a cup of chai (Spicy Chai for the most kick, Rooibos Chai if you want to keep it caffeine-free), might just be a great way to fill your whole body with some of that good loving feeling!

History, mythology, and literature are full of (sometimes laughable) attempts to induce love with herbal concoctions, however, across many ancient cultures herbs are mentioned and often attributed with special romantic powers.

• In Eastern traditions, the legendary power of the ginseng root is prescribed for men who are yearning for a little extra fire between the sheets.
• The Kama Sutra, as well as many ancient Indian texts often mention herbal ingredients and attributed special powers to them. Pungent herbs like cinnamon, clove, cardamom, ginger and anise were thought to be stimulating and invigorating for the body and thus, feelings of love and lust. Cup of Chai anybody?
• In Anthony & Cleopatra, Shakespeare wrote about Cleopatra’s “fatal fragrance,”  a collection of herbs that entranced any man who entered her chambers and made him instantly fall madly in love with her.
